Why it matters

Minutes matter. Blood at the bedside saves lives.

When a patient is bleeding out, hours waiting for blood from an outside source can be the difference between recovery and loss. Our in-house blood bank means we can transfuse within minutes of identifying the need — a critical advantage in trauma, internal bleeding, and major surgery.

Blood typing and crossmatching are performed on-site to make sure transfusions are safe and effective. Our team is trained in transfusion medicine, including monitoring for transfusion reactions and managing them if they occur.

Beyond emergencies, our blood bank supports planned procedures (oncologic surgery, complex orthopedic cases) where significant blood loss is anticipated — we can have units ready before the procedure even starts.

The Dogwood standard

Transfusion standards.

  1. On-site, 24/7 availability

We don’t wait for outside delivery. Blood products are stored and ready in our hospital, available the moment they’re needed.

  2. Type-matched and crossmatched

Every transfusion is preceded by blood typing and crossmatching, performed in our in-house lab. Results in minutes.

  3. Continuous monitoring

Transfusion reactions can develop in minutes. Patients receiving blood products are continuously monitored by trained nursing staff.

  4. Thromboelastography-guided transfusion

Thromboelastography helps us choose exactly the right product for each patient’s specific bleeding pattern.
